MOTIE slashes REC weighting for coal-mixed biomass

MOTIE is cutting REC weighting for coal-mixed biomass powers by half. The move may raise the market’s appetite for RECs generated by other renewable resources. The adjustment will affect public power utilities, for now, leaving private operators some time to review their strategies. In 2019, over 9 million RECs were generated by biomass sources, meaning 29.3% of the total REC issued in the year.
