Hyundai companies have revealed their ambition, which could run heavy machinery with hydrogen in the future.
Hyundai Motor Group stated that two of its affiliated companies, well-known Hyundai Motor Company and Hyundai Mobis, a car parts company, signed an MOU with Hyundai Construction Equipment under Hyundai Heavy Industries Group to put hydrogen fuel cell in heavy machinery (the two groups were under the same wing, Hyundai Group).
Hyundai Motor Group will design and produce the fuel cell system, while Hyundai Construction Equipment developing the forklift and excavator, which will be the “world’s first hydrogen-fueled Heavy equipment” according to the statement. Three parties agreed to produce prototypes of the hydrogen-fueled forklift and excavator by 2020 and 2021 respectively. The commercial products should be come out in 2023 if all goes to the plan.
Hyundai Motor Company has been busy investing in hydrogen technology. It has been investing in “Impact Coatings, H2Pro and GRZ Technologies for fuel cell, hydrogen production, and hydrogen storage technologies.
