MOF sets safety standard for electric vessels

Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) of Korea announced on May 21 ‘the standard for electrically propelled vessels,’ which specifies permanence and safety standards of ships with electric propulsion systems. The latest standard replaces the previous standard that has been tentatively used since 2018. The new rule extends the application scope to larger ships as well as tightening up safety requirements. To build such ships under the new standard, hazard evaluation should be conducted first to specify specifications of firefighting equipment in battery rooms.
